Hi, SDN --

I'm planning on finishing my application for NIH IRTA at the start of the Fall semester, save for one LOR that will be in by winter break (PI's can view apps that don't have their LOR's in).

When is it best to start contacting PI's? Is it pointless to start in September? When is ideal to start?

START ASAP. They hire on a rolling basis. Last year I started contacting in February and most labs were filled already. Thankfully I ended up in a great lab but it a long process.

Yeah, start ASAP for sure. I applied to 30-something labs by the end of February last year and it took a while to hear back from most of them
