Hi everyone! I haven't heard back from UCR yet (although the deadline is in 1 week) so this decision might not even be mine to make, however I've been thinking about this a lot and cannot seem to make a clear decision (if I need to).
UMass
Pros:
-I really like how their program is set up. Each block has a WIN week which is essentially a free week if you pass your assessment. Otherwise you have another chance to take the test at the end of the week
-Lectures are recorded and without mandatory attendance
-UMass Health is a large health network (for shadowing + research)
-Arguably stronger match list
-New experience on the East Coast will likely provide me with different perspectives
Cons:
-Total COA would be around 320-360k (received a small scholarship). Not encouraging with 8% interest loans.
-Expensive and more complicated travel. I also have a pet animal that I plan on bringing with me.
-Weather is much harsher than Southern California
UCR
Pros:
-Likely cheaper cost of attendance even without significant scholarships
-A lot closer to family and friends
-Medical Spanish program
-Very strong match rate in Southern California, which is likely where I want to end up
Cons:
-Relatively new program
-Fewer nearby research opportunities
-Does not have its own hospital
Thank you for your input
