Currently trying to purchase a URL and name the practice. Thoughts on using my name vs. a fictional word or another word(s) entirely; i.e. mindbloom (I realize this is a thing already).

Also, thoughts on putting my city in URL? On one hand I could see this helping, but on the other hand now that things are heavy tele, I could theoretically see people anywhere in the state.

I don’t recommend using your name. What if you sell the practice one day? You ok with them keeping your name?

If you include the city, it will help with local SEO, but it also limits your ability to move the practice.

You can name it after a landmark instead of a city so it’s more portable. Thinking “green mountain psychiatry” or “silver lake psychiatry” or the like so it’s still local sounding

Also think about who your ideal patients are. What would draw them in?

Been wondering the same. So sounds like picking a name with market appeal> Dr.X psychiatry

I think Dr. X Psychiatry works most of the time. If you hire more psychiatrists or therapists, you may end up wanting a different name. At least in my state, the business name can easily be changed with a "doing business as" DBA change. You could start as Dr. X, then in a few years, change to Psychiatric Associates. To the public they'd see psychiatric associates, but on business licenses/taxes etc it would still be the Dr. X name officially.

I agree, if you are a solo doc then "Your Name MD" works well. It emphasizes that patients will be working directly with you, which should be a large part of the appeal v a larger practice. If you plan to hire others I would opt for a clinic name instead, I think there have been some good general suggestions above

Old doctor joke that made the rounds a few years ago:

A psychiatrist and a proctologist got out of medical school and decided to start a practice together. They couldn't decide on a practice name. One wanted "Nuts and Butts" and the other one preferred "Odds and Ends"

"Stimulant City"
I mean, a local practice when I was in residency was "ADHD $CITYNAME$." Pretty "savvy," employ/partner with a neuropsychologist and require everyone pay for a comprehensive neuropsych eval as part of the standard intake process.

The one patient I had who had gotten their ADHD "diagnosis" from them definitely did not have ADHD. And, well, focusing pretty narrowly on selling a specific problem might contribute to missing the severe depression and subsequent suicide attempt.

That name is so comical to me

ADHD Nashville
ADHD DC
ADHD Savanah
ADHD Milwaukee
ADHD San Fran
...

I just cannot imagine how anyone would think a business with this name would be doing anything resembling actual psychiatric care. Maybe that was the point (and SEO).

But doc, I've been having trouble focusing ever since my wife died unexpectedly and I lost my job due to downsizing. I just feel tired all the time, have no energy, can barely sleep, and every time I try to do something I get distracted and can't help but think of all my stressors and have passive thoughts of death. I must have ADHD and need a stimulant, right?

My friend who is a child psychiatrist and I (geriatric psychiatrist) joked about starting a practice together called "Diapers to Diapers: Your Psychiatry Specialists from the Cradle to the Grave." :)

I like the name Cradle to Grave psychiatry. Start em when they are young!

In this particular case, the patient was an ultra-high-performing sub-sub-specialty surgeon with likely serious underlying narcissistic (in the psychodynamic sense) issues.
