I sent off my application for the feb. 15th deadline. As far as I was aware, a few uni 's in ireland are considering graduate entry programs (GEP) for 2007 entry. did you apply for 4 or 5 year programs?

The new scheme for GEPs in 2007 is only meant for EU students... I believe RCSI is the only one with 50% of the seats for non-EU students (since it's private)

I am just wondering, did you try to apply to the US or even Canada? :)

A comment was posted here about the new Graduate Entry programs that will hopefully be starting up in 2007 only being for Eu students. I know UCC is planning on streaming appropriate international candidates (that is, the North American students) into their graduate entry program. I can't speak for the other schools, but I also know that this program, with the exception of the RCSI program, is intended to be more cooperative between the various schools (sharing hospital resources, doing some courses through e.learning) so probably the other schools will follow suit. This is really good news for anyone starting in 2007. The UCC plan is also to keep the same number of positions for North American applicants. Cheers,
M

This should probably be moved to another thread but regarding NUIG, it is the only school not affiliated with the Atlantic Bridge Program. So, you would have to apply directly to NUIG, not through the Atlantic Bridge Program. The
folks at NUIG were pretty nice when I contacted them about the application process but I ended up not applying there cuz I was just too lazy to fill out more applications (already sent apps to U.S. and Irish schools at the time ):oops:

According to Keenan at the ABP, This is what I was told;

I am not sure if NUIG is part of the program, even though I applied there as well. .
[FONT=times new roman,new york,times,serif] .
[FONT=times new roman,new york,times,serif]Dear ************: Galway does participate in the program but they have yet to finalize any decisions. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.".

Hi guys!

I just found out about my U.K. A-level grades and with AAAA (in Bio, Chem, Physics and Calculus) I should get 600 CAO points in the Irish application system. UCD medicine is first on my CAO preference list. As only 1% of Irish applicants get 600 CAO points based on their exam performance and UCD required 580 points for medicine last year, I'm pretty sure I *should* have a place to study medicine at UCD. The offers come out on August 20th.

I'm hoping to be able to skip the preliminary year since I have already covered most of the material in my studies so far.
Can't wait to meet all you other UCD students!

I'm from: all over -lived in Finland, the US and the UK

First Choice: RCSI just to get out in four years

Have applied: 1st time

Applying late in the U.S. or Canada (more so by 100%) is rough. :luck: with the Irish schools. People on this forum have written of late acceptances---running into the summer. :thumbup:

Mr. Louis told me he's seen good applicants not get accepted until August. :eek:

Mr. Louis told me he's seen good applicants not get accepted until August. :eek:

OMY!!!!!!!!!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:
But, in general, isn't mid-March when one should generally hear something (we applied much earlier in this process)?????
I remember you saying that if you have not received anything yet, that you may be in good shape???? :confused:

Don't know what constitutes a good applicant but I didn't apply until March and got an acceptance (UCC) in late August.

hmm. I guess the adcomms are waiting to see what variety may come with the late apps???

ABP told me that if you haven't been rejected from RCSI yet, then you are most likely going to get an interview spot for the second round. As far as the other schools go, you just have to wait--there isn't really a method to the madness.

I applied for RCSI and UCD by the November 15 deadline and have not heard anything from either. I am applying to the six year programs, though...

Does anyone have an idea of what I should expect in terms of hearing back from these schools?

Applied last year to Canadian schools and got the hard rejection

Does anyone know how reputable of a medical school Trinity is??

Very reputable. I've mentioned the name of Trinity to a bunch of people and they all knew it. However, all the students currently in Ireland will probably attest to the fact that their education in any of the medical schools in Ireland is par with N. America. Unfortunately the main concern for many is Residency following med school, but a lot can happen in 5 years. Hope that helps. Good luck on your decision:luck: :luck: .

congrats on your interview date! wish you all the best... do you know if RCSI has just one wave of interviews (in feb) or are there more? cuz i thought there were going to be later...like in may or june...

Of what I have read in the archives of the last couple of years on SDN, the email that confirms our application as submitted only mentions RCSI interview range of May/June. But, I think that range refers to the second round of interviews. Although not mentioned in the email, there always seems to be an initial round of interviews in February/March.
