Hello all,

I am a board certified Internal Medicine Physician (practicing independently for 2 years now) in USA. I am also a Canadian citizen but i am an IMG. I did only 3 years of Internal Medicine here in the USA. I know you need 4 years of training for Canada. Would the 2 years of independently practicing count for anything? Or does it have to specifically a post grad training year?

Also, if it does count, do I need to take the MCCQE to go back to BC or my USMLE exams would suffice?

Thanks in advance

I think It has to be a chief year or ACGME-accredited fellowship, independent practice doesn't count unfortunately.

Per this article here, it seems that their requirements are not necessarily 100% rigid, and you might be able to get around this by being board-certified and taking the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons Canada Exams. It's probably worth contacting the BC board to check.
