I'm a 2023 grad who's been working GP for 5 months. I'm interested in pursuing a rotating internship and pivoting to emergency medicine but have no idea where to start to apply, especially since I've been out of school since May. Was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation?

I went from GP (~four years) to working ER, which I found quite doable. If you haven't just picked up a couple relief shifts or hung out with an ER vet, I'd personally recommend that first just to get a feel for it - we somewhat routinely have vets do that, and some of them DEFINITELY decide quickly it isn't for them, haha.

Several ER groups have training programs that pay a bit better than an internship if you're just thinking ER work, not actual specialization, too. Just have to watch their requirements for working afterward and non-competes.

I've spoken to a handful of vet school residents/faculty members who did not go straight into rotating internship so it definitely can be done. For letters of rec I’ve received the advice that you can shadow at specialty hospitals if you do not work with any specialists currently and need to have eLORs.
