Just started my interview process and wanted to let people know, in case you haven't come across it, there's a website called plasticsmatchinsider.com that I found really useful in preparing for interviews.

Good luck to everyone!

Just curious if it's okay to email program secretary stating that you just recently got an important manuscript accepted for publication, first author, and attach it??? For a couple of interviews that I already had..

Moravian? Your input? Other PDs? Just hope it won't come off unprofessional since it is "contact after the interview."

I think it's fine. Whether it will make any difference at all is highly doubtful though.

This is permitted contact. As long as you are simply providing new information about your application. For example (if you are a general surgery resident) you may want to e-mail programs your inservice result for this year which recently came out.

Has anybody heard from USC and Univ Minnesota ??

For Moravian/other administrators, do many/most programs call our program director to get the inside scoop for their top candidates?

We will frequently talk to one of your letter writers, especially if they are someone that we know. We will not as frequently talk to the General Surgery PD as to one of the Plastics faculty.

Agree. Will always call about anyone we decide to rank and it's always better if it's someone we know who is the letter writer, PD, or Chair.

How often do programs not rank an interviewee?

congrats all on the upcoming match.

in anticipation for next year's match. does everyone get a PD and chairman letter in addition to a 3rd letter or would it be preferable to have 2 plastic surgeon letters and PD.

Thanks in advance.

2 plastic surgeons and your PD is better, I think...unless your chair is renown and known to the plastics guys.

Definitely. My chairman was world-renowned, like one of the top two or three names in his field, but his field is HPB. None of the plastics guys I interviewed with had ever heard of him.

Hi All,

Wishing you all the best in the upcoming match.

I've got a related question about recommendations as I prepare for next year.

I'd like to replace the PD letter with a letter from my chairman, who was PD when I joined the program. The current PD is a poor letter writer, much junior and much less renowned than my chairman.

I still plan to get one letter each from my chief of plastic surgery, and my research mentor, who is a chief of plastics at another hospital.

I would appreciate any thoughts on these plans.

Does SF-Match tell you that you have to have a PD/Chairman letter?

Honestly, when I read Independent applicants letters from PD/Chairman, all I want to see is "Dr X has been a great resident and will do well." I'm much more interested in the letter from Plastics faculty, especially "known" academic faculty. I've been surprised at the number of applicants who have NO letters from Plastics faculty at all. I realize that part of that is related to the very limited experience that General Surgery residents get in their training, but I would recommend that applicants find a way to get to know that Plastics faculty well-enough to get letters from them -- they'll be much more effective for you than a letter from some Vascular surgeon that I've never heard of.

It was great meeting many of you on the interview trail.
Good times at all the socials... hopefully many more at conferences/meetings.
Good luck to everyone!

And now we have come full circle with you starting and ending this thread

Does anyone know which other programs call?
Did anyone get any other phone calls.

Anyone know what time we will find out tomorrow?

I talked to other applicants that got calls-Penn, USC, and NYU

What's your name, "ficknucktuck?" No need for anonymity if you matched as well as you claim.

Or feel free to sign off.

Only 6 people were interviewed at NYU and I don't think any of us got calls yet. I wonder who you spoke to, ficknucktuck? Please stop trolling.

we'll see who knows what they're talking about soon enough, won't we? i'm going out and celebrating...good luck to all who don't know yet. i'll toast to u ;)

To all my close friends on the interview trail....sleep well, I wish the best for you all. Those in the Northeast...NYC Saturday night!!!!!!

Would be interesting to see where everyone matched. I'm down for celebrating on Saturday night in NYC. We gotta pick a venue. :)
