Hello Friends,
I have completed my 3yrs residency in FP.
I like to have a career in health care business.
I am not sure where to start?
Physician Executive MBA Program - University of Tennessee is some thing I am looking in into.
Can anyone recommend how I can kick start my career?
Any suggestions?

"Health Care business" is a fairly broad field. What exactly do you see yourself doing? Working in health care policy? Business/finance side of an insurance company or pharama company? As a practice management specialist? In hospital management? or any other field in the medical business?

An MBA with a healthcare concentration is pretty good to have. There are also programs in Health Care policy that are really good. One of my friends is currently doing one at UNC Chappell Hill.
If you are more specific, then the options can be narrowed down to suit your needs.

Thank you for your reply.
I have been reading about consulting. Even though I do not have a very good idea about it. From what ever I have read it seems to be a suitable field for me.

I'm not sure you guys are on the same page. An executive MBA is not the same as an MBA. (The latter takes significantly longer to get, and the former is much more geared toward fine tuning an existing skillset.)
I wouldn't get either for purposes of "getting" a job -- either program will be beneficial to enhance your skills in an existing career, or enable you to move up the ranks in a company, but unlike an MD or other grad degree, the MBA tends not to be a prerequisite degree for employment or a degree regarded as having much value absent true work experience.

I do believe an MBA in healthcare admin can help you with this. An MHA (masters in health care administraton) can do the same. Most of all it is experience you need in the business.

Do you have any suggestions of how to get the experience in the field. I like to work on that, while I get my Phy sician's MBA. Its very expensive.

I would contact a recruiter, let them know your current educational level and let them know what you intend to do and ask them to find you an entry level management position where you can work with more experienced people as you build up your own. Since you are licensed, i would also practice part time for right now. Working clinically always gives you loads of experience as well.

best of luck

Very useful suggestion.
What kind of recruiters do I approach. Any suggestion. what kind of jobs i will be eligible for?
Thank you

first start with the regular head hunters like monster, hotjobs etc. Depending on what city you live in, do an internet search for the corporate recruiters, then contact them and give them very very detailed info for what you are looking for.
