Sorry to hear you're feeling down, I know how you feel, I'm in the exact same situation. I'm still waiting to get official notice from NSU/Nova. I would seriously rethink not ranking one of the programs. Unless you just can't afford it, I would go anywhere. I've heard from too many people, no matter what the weaknesses of the program are, if you are motivated, you can make up for them. Most pedo specialists that I have talked to, told me the same thing. Residency is not like dental school, it's more self study than we realize. Sure it'd be nice to go to a program where everything you need is handed to you on a silver platter, but that's almost impossible, since we all have such different learning styles. One program I interviewed at, the residents complained about minimal teaching, so they formed a study group, where they meet once a week and discuss certain topics. Problem...solution.
Also another specialist I spoke to said there is a lot of misconception about what a good program is. Some feel that 40 OR cases is good, but 100 is better. He said, that you don't need to do a 100 to feel comfortable. Most likely you could be learning something else that will be more beneficial to you long term. Another person I interviewed with said that they didn't offer a lot of sedation training, but if I was interested I could spend more time in that rotation etc. At NSU they have a great cleft palate program, those who are not interested in learning a lot about it, will spend minimal time there, but for me I would be spending a lot more time at that clinic.
Again, if it's a finances and you just can't afford to go there, then don't rank it, but if it's something else I would think about it long and hard.
OH and remember, although you only interviewed at three school, you only need to get in at one. Good luck, for both of us.
