Each year, the LeadAmerica Medicine & Healthcare program offers paid internship positions to medical, graduate, and nursing students interested in developing their skills as educators, incorporating their background and knowledge of the health care profession in a planned curriculum, and sharing their passion for medical sciences with outstanding high school students throughout the country. The internship primarily targets 1st year medical students, physical and occupational therapy students, and graduate students in medically-related programs. Other qualified students are welcomed and encouraged to apply if their summer plans allow.

The mission of LeadAmerica is to inspire and empower young people to achieve their full potential and instill a sense of purpose, integrity, self confidence, and personal responsibility. The organization sponsors career-focused leadership conferences for middle and high school students from across the United States and more than 50 countries worldwide. With a commitment to youth, and excellence in leadership education that dates back more than 20 years, LeadAmerica has enriched the lives of over 60,000 young leaders. All LeadAmerica programs are approved by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and are college accredited.

Throughout the Medicine & Healthcare program, students between the ages of fifteen and eighteen, who aspire to be leaders in the fields of medical science, will learn the potentials and challenges inherent in the healthcare profession and how they may play a key role in the growth and development of this field. Students will meet with leading scientists, physicians and allied health professionals, and government officials to explore the world of healthcare and advancements in technologies. In addition, students will participate in several hands-on laboratories such as a standardized patient clinical encounter, a robotic patient simulator critical thinking exercise, a gross anatomy laboratory tour, and an emergency medical technician instruction session.
