I’m wondering if any current Navy affiliates can shed some light on the scope of Navy OMFS residencies? I have heard they tend to focus on bread and butter types of cases (3rds and implants) with minimal exposure to a true full scope.

Realistically, I can see myself getting cozy with teeth and titanium, but I feel like having exposure to more advanced procedures would be nice too. Are the out-service programs the go-to in that regard?

The inservice programs probably do more orthognathic surgery than all but a handful of residencies in the country. They get exposure to other fields during offservice rotations - all of them rotate you out to civilian Level I trauma centers to get trauma experience. Depending on the faculty at a given program, they may be doing TMJs regularly, cosmetics, and cancer. It all depends.
