Ok I haven't received anything other than 1 rejection,1 wait list and 1 acknowledgment and I applied to >70 programs.is it time to panic yet?

I have not received anything either. I think won't panic until 1st or 2nd week of September. I spoke to a Co resident of mine who had applied for endocrinology fellowship last year and she said that Ivs come till end of September..

Has anybody heard from NYC programs? What is a safe number of interviews to match?

so what is going on this year... is it exceptionally slow or is it just really competitive these days..... I know there is an updated list off group invites/rejections but has anyone really heard from the bulk of the programs in CA, TX, FL, IL, NJ, NY?

I know for a fact that Mount Sinai has not even started reviewing interviews, also RWJUH, Has not sent invites either.

I personally haven't heard from CA or IL except for Loyola IV and UCLA Harbor rejection. I don't know about the other states (didn't apply there)...

RJWMS and Sinai have sent out interviews.
I've also heard from NYU and Monte in terms of NY programs.

From what I've read on prior threads, RWJUH sent their interviews around 2 weeks ago las year, other NYC programs started around this time as well. I only have 2 so far, unfortunately only could apply to NYC programs so I'm kind of screwed...

Does anyone know if it's advisable to send emails to program coordinators inquiring about the status of applications? I thought I was a strong candidate, but it seems the stigma of being on a visa might overshadow anything else on my CV.

The best thing you can do is to ask your mentor if they can send an unsolicited follow up lor to the programs you are interested. That will make them open your application. I'm on a j1 visa. Have 11 interviews invites. Think that def helped.

Rutgers, would an unsolicited 2nd LoR from my Residency PD have the same effect? She is always willing to help me out including calling programs if necessary.
