A buddy of mine is a 3rd year medical student (4th year now) and he had the opportunity to do his OB rotation out of town at a county medical center. He said that it was the best roation he has hadthus far! He got to sit in on so many deliveries, wasn't shunned out of rooms by patients, got to be 1st and 2nd assist on all the surgeries. Is this typical of the county hospital OB experience??

My school's teaching hospital is a county facility, and MS3's deliver LOTS of babies. You will watch the first one or two, and then perform the delivery on your own with resident supervision. It's great! In the OR, the student usually retracts, sutures, etc. I would strongly recommend working at a county hospital at some point. Due to the volume of deliveries, students get to do tons.
