3rd year medical student here, starting to plan for 4th year elective rotations in Neurology. I've heard that it's difficult to secure sub-Is in neurology, so I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for applying. Is there a way to see programs that accept applications outside of VSAS? Is there anything that I should have ready or anything that I should do before VSAS opens up to increase my chances of securing sub-Is? Any help would be so appreciated!

Hi there - first, I'm assuming you are trying for an away/audition sub-I rather than at your home institution. If so, I have no experience with VSAS so I wouldn't add much value to that.

If I was in your shoes, I would have my neurology or medicine chair call the chair at the outside institution, so as to speak on my behalf (a verbal LOR). Otherwise, I think like many things, luck is a big factor in VSAS slots.
