Nephrology and Critical Care

Hello everyone. I have a question on behalf of a friend who matched to Nephrology. He has open interest in doing critical care Nephro. The questions were:

1). how difficult is it to get a 1 year critical care fellowship after doing 2 year of general Nephro??

2). Just like me, he is interested in academic nephrology. How common is it for people to go into academic after having done Nephro/cc??

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
