so i'm part white and part Mexican. people can never tell what i am and most of the time i get Italian or something Mediterranean. to be honest i don't even know if i'm going to apply urm but just thought i would solicit opinions about people who are of mixed race but grew up culturally white rockin' the suburbs (i did spend the better part of college trying to get back in touch with the other part though and am finally fluent in spanish, haha). any thoughts...

You cannot "apply" URM. There is no URM box to check. You put down your race/ethnicity, and each individual school decides if you are URM or not.

I'm half black and half puerto rican. I absolutely hate that they only allow you to check one box. I was raised with both cultures very strong and very present - both sides of my family mean everything to me and the fact that I can only represent one side in the initial application stage really pisses me off. I hope you can select more than one option at some point. I'm making sure to emphasize both cultures in my PS though.

From what I recall, you can check off both on AMCAS... unless they changed it recently or something.

Well that's good news!

On the survey before the MCAT they only let me select one.

Well. Are you going to share? Don't keep this secret from the rest of us.

But, turning yellow? Eww. That sounds nasty. Lol.

Sorry I never did check back on this thread. I use a regular shampoo such as Johnson's baby shampoo because it is gentle. Then I use a leave in conditioner by kinky curly called Knot Today (http://kinky-curly.com/shop.php). When I get out of the shower I use motions wrapping foam (https://www.gigibeauty.com/images/MOTIONS/MFWLREG.jpg), just a little bit all over. I then section off my hair and with each section I apply Pantene Pro-V relaxed and natural wrap & set spray(http://pantene.com/en-US/collectionDetail.jspx?collectionId=relaxandnaturalintensivemoisture), and after that I take a glob of Pantene Pro-V relaxed and natural oil moisturizer and apply it to that section. I then use a vented paddle brush (http://www.sallybeauty.com/Thermal-Paddle-Vent-Brush/SBS-217016,default,pd.html?cgid=Hair10) to comb the product through. My hair naturally groups so I take those groups and finger twirl them.

All in all this takes me about 15-30 minutes to do. I sleep with a satin cap and it will last a few days (I try to wash every 3 days because otherwise it takes forever to detangle my hair in the shower). If you use enough of the moisturizer your hair will dry 100% frizz free. And this moisturizer will not leave a greasy residue.
Good Luck
