A patient who's a candidate for CESI has documented history of methylprednisolone allergy (skin rash/hives). Think I will use dexa and benadryl pretreatment.

Do you think it's necessary to ask the patient get skin tested for dexamethasone by an allergist?

I need to do a trigger point for her LBP anyway. Sorta like a allergy test, but don't want to risk if she develops an anaphylaxis.

What would you do?

ouch

#1. dont put in any steroids with TPIs
#2. dont do TPIs for LBP
#3. dont do frequent TPIs anyway -- they are dumb
#4. dont do CESIs with particulates
#5. dont do skin testing
#6. just use dex -- you will be fine. pre treatment unnecessary

she was most likely allergic to a preservative in the depo
