med student vs med graduate

Just wondering if anyone knows if PDs view medical school graduates in a negative way compared to 4th years who are applying. I became intersted in ophtho kinda late but will be doing research for the year. Will I be asked about not having applied last year, etc.? Thanks for any input on this.

I don't think this is a big deal as long as you have a good reason for taking a year off. Research is a very good reason.
