Tone of the letter is overwhelmingly positive, but it could just as easily mean a rejection, I suppose.

*sigh* At least you got some form of correspondence from them. Still haven't heard back from alot of schools.

But it's Still Early! I talked to several programs today, and they said they will start looking at the bulk of applications around their due date (for most schools, that's the end of September to Early October)

Yale by snail mail!

Does anybody know how good Yale is- ranking wise? My faculty advisor said it was first tier (on a 3 tier scale) but I'm not sure how much emphasis to put on the "USNews" rank list. Any thoughts?

Depends on what one is looking for in a program and what criteria you use to "rank" the program. Here's a thread about yale, perhaps it will provide some insight:

BTW - Are you supposed to wait for Bascom Palmer to ask you for an autobiography or should you just send it in? What about supplemental photos and the like for other schools?

Did they offer interviews, or is this just the interview dates? As for the 600 word essay, I sent my autobio before requested as I did not receive my confirmation until this week. Either way...might as well write it and get it in sooner rather than later.
 
UW-Madison interview by email!! (only October 10th offered) Does anyone have any insight on programs that only offer one interview day, and whether they will allow you to schedule another day. Right now, I am taking step 2 CS on 10/6, CK on 10/9, UW-Madison is on 10/10, and Yale 10/11. Seems like a ton to handle and travelling would be a headache. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!!!

I definitely would not worry at this point. Often programs will download the apps in a batch, review those, send out invites, and then review the next batch. Your's may not have been in the first batch. Even though you got your's in pretty early, that doesn't mean that there weren't a whole lot of people who got them in even earlier.

Those are just the dates for Bascom. Thought I would share since it is not posted anywhere that I know of.
 
Rejection from BU via email, 9/21. (actually, PM me if you want specifics bout stats/app/etc). no connection to boston, but did high school and college on east coast. this rejection wouldn't feel as bad if i had any interview offers, oh well. part of the game. CAS dist 9/5 (batch 5, though they received it 8/21 :( ) .
does anyone whose CAS was distributed in september around my date have interviews yet? thanks in advance!

Ditto...BU rejection, my first one too! Don't sweat it...nice to get the first out of the way and use it as a reminder that it won't be the last.
 
For you Texas people...any idea what is going to happen to the utmb program? are they still interviewing people this year? I havent heard from them, but just wondering...
 
Yale invite today :D (happened to call the department and Erica said she had already sent me the letter).. offering 12/12 and 12/13 dates now.
 
Still interview-free, but here to report 2 photo requests:

Columbia notified me that my file is incomplete because I haven't sent in my photo yet, which was kinda funny, because had I assumed I missed their deadline because CAS took too long. Apparently their deadline was flexible, and I was supposed to already know about the photo requirement. Email sent Sept 18th, photo due by Oct 1st.

Also, UC Irvine requested CV and photo on Sep 18, due Sept 30th.

I asked Columbia in reply to their photo request:
"Can this be a normal passport sized photo or has to be 3"x3" photo?"

Their answer was (I kid you not... one word answer):
"yes"

I just sent the passport photo I had.

In my latest act of incompetence I accidentally deleted the email instructing us where to send the photo...could someone forward me this email from Columbia via a PM so I can send in my photo before the deadline? Thanks :thumbup:

According to SF Match profile, UW-Madison dates are 10/10/08, 10/24/08, 11/21/08, 12/05/08, so maybe the others will open up later?

Maybe having to take the first date is the price you pay for already getting an interview. ;)

I think you can ask for other dates - when I called rochester, I just asked if they had other dates and the secretary gave me a choice of all three and I chose later one. try calling and asking for a later date.

The residency coordinator allowed me to switch to the 10/24 date. So, if you run into conflicts down the road, always try to call and switch. They may or may not be able to accomodate, depending on the availability.
 
Thank GOD. Finally an interview invitation. UTSW offering 12/5 and 12/12, the last 2 dates they plan to interview. This program has 9 residents per class!!

anyone hear from wilmer? or try calling the program coordinator to inquire about the status of their app? I thought Wilmer was suppose to be one of the first to send out interview invites...I wonder when we will hear from them

The State of Texas and UTMB are making significant strides towards resuming patient care on the Galveston campus.
