Is there a list of US unviersities that sponsor H1B visas for Canadians anywhere? Also, what is the J1 SON quantity look like generally for applicants for pediatrics ?

Matcharesident.com - plug in that you need a J1. Unless you have completed Step 3 (which means you must be already graduated), you don't qualify for H1B and these are rare anyway.

Quantity limits on SONs in Canada were removed earlier this year.

If H1B visas are rare, why do people accept the J1 and be forced to come back to Canada for the 2 year return requirement? (if they want to practice in the US) Is there a way to avoid the 2 year commitment and how often does it occur?

J1 waiver. You can waive the 2-year home requirement by working in designated underserved areas for 2 years during which time you can then be on H1b and can obtain employment-based green card after fulfilling the 2 years requirement.

Thanks everyone that’s reassuring. Hopefully it stays like that.
I am graduated and currently in a Canadian residency so maybe I should try and do step 3 before.
