H.E.R. P.O.W.E.R. Harvard Medical Research Study: Female Athlete Health ($10 Gift Card to Amazon!)

Dear Female Student-Athletes,

We are writing to invite you to participate in a research study called the "Health, Energy, Risks, and Performance Observations in Women Exercising Regularly” (HER-POWER) Study. The HER-POWER Study includes a short, 15 minute, anonymous questionnaire about female athlete health and performance. All participants will receive a $10 electronic Amazon gift card.

As you may have read in the news recently, females are under-represented in research on exercise and sports science compared to their male counterparts. The disparity in sports-health research is particularly pronounced when it comes to female athletes of racial/ethnic minority backgrounds. The International Olympic Committee recently published a statement that called for more inclusive research on health risks and injury prevention in female athletes from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds, and all sports included.

The HER-POWER study is being conducted by the Female Athlete Program - Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital research team. As Sports Medicine physicians with a specialized focus in female athlete health, our goal for the study is to help improve female athlete health and prevent injuries over time. We are recruiting female athletes from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds, ages 15-30, who exercise approximately 4 or more hours per week on average, all sports included. Participants will complete a 15 minute anonymous questionnaire about their exercise patterns, sport participation, nutrition, physical/mental health, and any prior injuries.

Details:
· The survey is “multiple choice” and takes 10-15 minutes
· All study participants will receive a $10 Amazon gift card
· Participation is completely voluntary and optional
· Questionnaire responses are completely anonymous and confidential
· Results will be pooled in an aggregate data set with hundreds of anonymous responses from recreational and competitive athletes
