Hi,
I was wondering, I know that carbegoline is used for prolactinomas and you would typically use a stimulant for ADHD, but is there a particular reason why dopamine itself cannot just be given?

Is it something to do with MAO and breakdown? I was wondering because we had a question on it and the prof did not elaborate on it. Was just curious.

Thanks so much

MAOs, MAOs everywhere.

Same reason why people taking DMT take an MAOI with it. So the effects last longer than 5 minutes. Like Parkinsons - they give L-Dopa to avoid MAOs and cross the BBB, and Carbidopa to comp inhib AAAD and allow less L-Dopa breakdown. Pituitary lacks BBB but yeah.
