Facial Plastics/ENT research

My med school does not have an official plastics program. There is a guy at my school though that is an ENT doc who happens to do facial plastics and does research in facial plastics. I think I'm more inclined towards general plastics but when it comes to research is the distinction that different in the sense of residency programs evaluating RELEVANT research? obviously, you have to make the most of whatever opportunities are available at your school. just make sure the facial plastics research isn't fluff.
