Firecracker says the embryological source of a nevus is neuroectoderm, while first aid says pigment cells (i.e. melanocytes) are derived from neural crest cellls.
Which one is correct?

Both are right. FA is just more specific. I think. I could be wrong since embryo isn't my strongest suit.

FC says pigment cells are neural crest as well. DR DP ESCAPes in the AM to save Face. The 'P' in 'DR DP' stands for pigment cells, which are melanocytes. Neural crest is pretty close to neuroectoderm, so they may both be correct.

The types of neuroectoderm include:

Neural crest
pigment cells in the skin
ganglia of the autonomic nervous system
dorsal root ganglia.
facial cartilage
spiral septum of developing heart
ciliary body of the eye
adrenal medulla

Neural tube
brain (rhombencephalon, mesencephalon and prosencephalon)
spinal cord and motor neurons
retina
posterior pituitary
