Trump make these appts based on fame not qualifications.
I suspect the appointments are made in terms of ability to raise money. Fame is connected.

Oprah likes Dr Oz so figured you would approve. I don't know anything about him.....maybe Trump is just trolling you and CNN? Also......

"The White House also announced on Friday that Trump will appoint former bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno, famous for playing the Hulk in the television show "The Incredible Hulk" in the 1970s and '80s, and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to the council for two-year terms."

As for trump being a fool, the economy and country are booming....what does it say about Democrat politicians in general if a fool can be as successful as Trump?

Actually, it is not clear Trump has had very much impact on the economy just as Obama did not either. We are on the brink of a trade war instigated solely by Trump, and the last trade war was in the late 1920s, that heralded the onset of the great depression. Economies are cyclic.

This would be like a Democrat appointing Al Sharpton to some other useless council to capture his misguided supporters. Or appointing Angelina Jolie to be a goodwill ambassador. I would be more worried if he put Oz in charge of something real, rather than just celebrity outreach. But that's all this looks like to me - a BS Artist for a BS position. This is not a Francis Collins position.

On the economy, I think Trump deserves some credit. The tax bill was/will be phenomenal IMO. He also did a 180 degree turnaround from "You didn't build that" to "We love job creators". The federal govt is no longer advertising food stamps and is placing value on employment above almost all else. These are all good things and I think rather monumental and make a real difference.

Americans have to choose between the lesser of evils in politicians...

I think that is precisely the position we find ourselves in: two very imperfect choices due to our winner take all electoral college system in each state. We fundamentally have to select from two candidates only, groomed to appeal to their base, and infuriate the other side. Italy, Germany, and even England have far more messy political systems, but have not lost the art of compromise for a greater good since there are multiple parties represented in their governments.

Oz and I were residents together. He in surgery while I was in anesthesiology. Brilliant guy, always full of crazy ideas like using laser to do an AV fistula at 2 AM. Very business minded. Got MBA from Wharton while in med school. Interrupted education to serve in Turkish army to preserve rights to some inheritance in Turkey. His family has $$. Married into even more $$$$.

I voted for Trump because the other side(s) is undoubtedly corrupt and is bought and paid for using taxpayer dollars to enrich themselves, while now crying Russia Russia Russia for almost 2 years because they cant get over the election. The other side is also for ILLEGAL immigration, globalism, and higher taxes. The mass media being being the most divisive tool and predominantly democrat, they continue to reinforce why Trump won. They continue to piss off 65 million Americans who voted for Trump. Not to mention he soundly beat 12 Republican candidates.

i was hoping that this thread would be about how awful dr. oz is; rather than how wonderful our blessed commander in chief is.

if you open up the trump pandora's box, it will never be shut.

Trump is certainly giving our democracy a test. we will see how strong our form of government is. he is challenging the separation of powers. this could end very well for america...... or very poorly.

as far as the european parliamentary system? bring it on. id love to see it happen. more votes =====> you get to lead. leaders change when they dont have the support of the people. no set term limits. much more nimble and functional. much easier to respond quickly to a crisis. here? no so much.

regarding our democracy being tested, are u referring to the left's conspiracy to unseat a rightfully elected president using any and all means necessary? Are you referring to high level Democrat as well as Republican, FBI and DOJ employees texting and conspiring to bring down a presidential candidate before and after his rightful election? The left is wishing, hoping, and screaming about impeachment and anything or everything to unseat him. Wishing for the equivalent of our country failing isnt very American.

I've heard the "brink of war" bs also. Seems like it didnt pan out the way the left predicted with North Korea, with the left actually praising North Korea. My jaw dropped when CNN and the left was doing this. As for a trade war with China, that isnt panning out as a war either. As for Trump deserving credit for the economy....it remains to be seen. But i thought we were all in agreement that govt regulation needed to be curtailed. He is doing that. But this is a fact.....the left immediately warned the economy would tank if he was elected.....that never happened either.

North Korea meeting with South Korea has nothing to do with trump. It had to do the Olympics this winter.

Also... With the economy, one should look at what has happened exactly 1 year after trump came in to office, because the year after the election remains carryover from the last president.... ie what has happened to the market since January.

GDP was never more than 3% under previous administration. April was best month in history for US Budget....

CBO says April was best month in history for U.S. budget

i disagree with pretty much every claim you just made. so does half of america. trump is many things, but a uniter, he is not. dividing people is no way to lead a country

i dont want our country to fail. i DO want the donald to fail, because he is bad for our nation, IMHO. no conspiracies out there. i am waiting for the rule of law to be instituted. nobody is above the law. this is where our separation of powers gets tested.

if mueller (a life-long republican war hero with an impeccable record) exonerates him without any interference; id be shocked but i would accept it.

yet the DJIA and the S&P 500 lost since Jan 2018...
(fwiw, Jan 23, 2018 - 26,214 closing bell. at the moment right now, 24,286)

notice how trump hasn't mentioned the stock market in the last couple of months?

and trump promised 4% GDP. https://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/15/trump-claims-his-economic-plan-would-create-35-annual-gdp-growth.html

funny, how anyone can twist numbers to ones own political bent - myself included.

Im no market expert and i dont think i directly mentioned it in this thread......It seems the market corrected as predicted, and the promise of increased interest rates due to a stronger economy is why we are down from the highs in January. The market didnt like Trump tariffs, but ill submit it is a necessary event due to China's cheating for decades. Last week's "lackluster" jobs report may have spared us from one rate hike. 2-3 are still predicted this year.

Not sure what your link to a 2 year old article means except his prediction. Are we or arent we getting to 4%?

which claims? FBI high ranking agents texting each other about an insurance policy to unseat a duly elected president is "fake news"?

All of your claims I dispute. Like fox news, you pick and choose . those 2 agents texted thousands of times and we're very negative about essentially everyone. You only choose what you want to hear, but take the rest out of context

where did i mention fox news?

Are we greater than 3% GDP, or not?

Trump is an a$$hole....i get it. But he did what he campaigned on.....SCOTUS Gorsuch, decrease taxes(Republican plan but ok) and govt control of our lives(2 for 1), decrease illegal immigration(pending). Obamacare would have been done if not for McCain and his bitterness.

As for Dr Oz.....i dont think anyone cares. The left cares more about Stormy Daniels.

you didnt mention fox. i did. but your points are straight out of their playbook.

i didnt comment on the economy, but now that you mention it, i will accept that there was a "trump bump" when he took office. in the last 5 months, he has done nothing but hurt the economy every time he opens his mouth. (tariffs, iran deal, etc). he is spending money like a drunken sailor and it will catch up to us. the corporate rate was too high, and it should have been lowered, but the rest of the bill is a complete train wreck. but who knows, supply side trickle down economics may just work this time? the 5 other times didnt, but hey, why not gamble?

SCOTUS was a no-brainer. illegal immigration has been decreasing for decades. i am fine with tightening up immigration policies and actually enforcing them, but dont be a dick about it (separating moms from their kids, singling out el salvador, etc).

All of the crappy things trump his done, just of the top of my head
-pulled out of paris accord --unforgiveable
-appointed boatloads of crappy nominees for important positions. scandal after scandal
-created a nuclear crisis yesterday
-destroyed the EPA
-trampled on the state department and diplomacy in general, while beefed up our defense dept. where is this going to lead?
-has worsened the racial and ethnic divide in our country
-picks people to positions of power based on loyalty or if he likes what they say on TV -- rather actual qualifications.
-set back the VA oh, a few years at least.
-people who end up getting close to him either end up in jail or have their careers ruined.
-runs the white house like a TV show, rather than an actual functioning government.
-russia. nuff said

the man is a career criminal and a pathological liar. conservatives have sold their soul for short-lasting gains. he will end up dying penniless in jail (please dear lord) or at least out of office and disgraced. its coming.

i dont really care about the affair, but the cover up and the source of the payments are illegal. multiple felonies

I believe he's had multiple affairs, was sexually "inappropriate" with countless women, and tries to cover it all up on a regular basis. And I don't give single flying @#$k. He probably jaywalked on his way to screw the pornstar too.

I also didn't care that Clinton semen was found on Monica's dress and that he lied under oath about it. This kind of intrigue I leave to housewives to discuss over Mahjong. And to hyperactive prosecutors.

The economy looks great to me. Even if we have significant rough patches or even a trade war that comes from us defending our intellectual property, I think we are improving our position in the world.

I think my view of the president's role is just different than yours and many others. I just want actual, not symbolic results over the long term. Anything outside of that is a side show to me.

My CPA says the tax plan is great for me. Northerners in liberal states with a state income tax not so much. They wanted higher taxes, they got it. They shouldn’t be double dipping anyway. My staff likes their “crumbs”. I don’t like Trump but the more the media tried to convince me that I shouldn’t vote for him, the more they showed their true colors. They just want to protect their glass castle and boost ratings....I get it.

I think Obama unilaterally agreed to this Iranian deal, so Trump might be undoing something that should have never been done. Funny how the Iranians are Christian saints all of a sudden.

We aren’t going to convince each other....we should be worried about that California anti-physician bill. Ask yourself if Trump would support that bill(no chance he would) and you might like him more.

Stormy’s attorney doesn’t have a name either it seems. How does him “catching” Cohen laundering money help his client anyway?

I'm just glad Trump has completely unraveled Obama's legacy works of spinelessness and apology. The Iran deal was Obama's major international accomplishment of spinelessness, and its gone in an instant. Sadly, the Iranian's get to keep the PALLET loads of US cash that Obama sent to them as a bribe.

like Jay-Z.

yes, it is salacious, tabloid entertainment. from a president who had an affair with a porn star while his 3rd wife just gave birth. stand up character. do you actually believe he didnt have an affair?

i dont really care about the affair, but the cover up and the source of the payments are illegal. multiple felonies

So wait....this Cohen lawyer who now is not connected to Trumps dealings in the election is now under fire? Taking what a STRIPPER and her scumbag lawyer says as gospel and the MSM running this as headlines over the impending peace deal with N. Korea?. Wtf???. You should hear yourself. Since when is it collusion, which isn't a crime by the way, to do business with an America company? That's what her scumbag lawyer was referring to. An attorney doing consulting work for an American company.....which has zero ties to Russia. The company the scumbag lawyer was accusing even stated that on MSNBC no less.

And when Stephanapolous asked her scumbag lawyer for some kind of evidence, his answer was "There has to be something there." No documentation, no evidence, no sworn testimony, no paper trail, just "There has to be something there.". And when he was asked what was illegal about what Cohen he was dong by representing American companies, again he had nothing. "This thing is a pig and they can try to put lipstick on a pig — tonight, next week, next month — but it's still gonna be a pig," Avenatti said on MSNBC's "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell."

Are these the multiple felonies you are hanging your hat on?

Cohen taking money for trump from these companies are bribes. Pure and simple. He has no expertise that these huge companies would pay for. Cohen will never be a free man. Like flynn, manafort, stone, gates, probably don jr, invanka nunberg, page, that fat guy who mentored page, -- They are all going to jail. Also maybe pence, schiller, nunes, Rudy, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Donnie will have his comeuppance

I believe a porn star WAY more than I believe our president. Because I know for a fact that he is a liar.

I agree all politicians should be watched and scrutinized but it doesn't really seem plausible that a multibillioinaire would sell out so cheaply. That's part of Trump's appeal - that he didn't enter politics to get rich. Other politicians like the Obamas and the Clintons started out middle class and ended up stinking filthy rich. How does that work?

so you believe a 60 y/o man who eats McDonalds and doesnt exercise(Trump 10 years ago) was banging a pornstar? You need to turn off MSNBC and CNN.

they are all liars ssdoc...if any of it is true, which some is not because Avennatti had the wrong Michael Cohen on some transactions, it sounds like a page out of the Clinton playbook

the reason why for both is because trump is already rich and only wants to get richer, even if it is off the backs of the middle class.

this "experiment" has proven that you can get anything in the US if you have money. you can even buy a presidency...

Ab. So. Lutely.

No doubt in my mind. He has been a philanderer all his life. Did you watch the 60 minutes interview? She is totally believable. He used his position of power on the apprentice to seal the deal. Basically he said that he would get her on the show as a contestant (another lie) and she slept with him to further her career. He couldnt pull it off, so she split. Same basic idea with Karen Macdougal. It absolutely happened.

Again, the fact that he had an affair with a porn star while married makes him a complete slimeball, but thats nothing new. The affair is whatever. I dont care. Go screw whoever you want, but the cover up and the payments are illegal.

it is ALL about money. all of it. how many rich guys dont want to get more money? that is what motivates these guys. that is why steve wynn is (was) still trying to build more casinos when he is 90 years old.

also, he really doesnt have that much. nobody has been able to get a firm grasp of his assets and we have never seen his taxes. all of this money that was going thru cohen went right to trump. and that is just a tiny slice. we know that kushner was getting hundreds of millions from every state actor that could get in to see him. this directly affected policy in the middle east and has security implications for all of us.

trump has hard assets in real estate which could be liquidated, but he has a lot of loans out there, he way overpaid for his recent purchases, and his net worth and brand has plummeted since he became president. plus, he is a notorious cheapskate. all of that money pouring in from every company with any interest in policy went right to him.

but you may be right. i am watching too much MSNBC. it is pissing me off to no end to see what this monster has done. also, im developing a unnatural crush on rachel maddow.

You are losing it.....btw here is your past presidents symbol of foreign policy, along with a secret late night flight to Iran loaded with cash and releasing their own terrorists so they can get back into the fight and kill more Americans or anyone else.

But the middle class just received huge tax cuts, and their 401k’s have hit all time highs despite Krugman’s and everyone else’s warning that the economy would tank! I’m so confused. Crumbs I tell ya.

Maybe stormy’s lawyer should be appointed as a special assistant to the special prosecutor since he has such mad skills compared to Mueller who hasn’t been able to find anything except for a few Russian kids over the past two years.

Really please explain?

its 1 year.

Mueller has found a ton already. watergate took years, and this is way bigger.

krugman didnt say the economy would tank right away.

the middle class didnt receive a "huge" tax cut.

you have managed to lie 4 times in 5 sentences.

you seem to have difficulty separating fact from fiction. you believe what you want to believe and maybe i do as well to some extent. if you like what is happening right now in america, then we really dont have much to discuss

1. Don't care which porn star used him a DECADE prior to being our President. Totally Irrelevant. He was NOT a politician at that time!
2. The affair is terrible if true, but irrelevant to his presidency 10 years later.
3. The "cover up" is not illegal, if it even exists. We know she willingly signed and violated an NDA. She accepted the terms of the NDA and broke it. Clearly she did this to get more money from her stripper shows and generate tons of money from media slots and rejuvenate sales of her porn catalog. Her career was dead or dying prior to this.
4. The "Payments," if true, are not illegal. There is zero evidence it was funded by campaign contribution money.

actually, trump first ran for president in 2000

i agree that if donny wants to sleaze it up, then it doesnt affect his presidency IMHO. however, the evangelical vote went to trump overwhelmingly, which is the height of hypocricy.

the payment to daniels was a clear campaign finance violation, which is a felony. it was paid directly before the election.

from WAPO:
Those two things together — that a Trump Organization email address was used to facilitate the payment and that the payment was linked to the campaign — would constitute a legal violation. (On “60 Minutes,” Avenatti reiterated his sense that the timing of the agreement with Daniels made it very unlikely that it was unrelated to the campaign.) The email from the bank to Cohen does not prove that company money was used to pay Daniels, which Noble told us last month would itself be illegal. Just using that email address is its own problem.

Common Cause‘s Paul Ryan (himself a former lawyer with the Campaign Legal Center) noted on Twitter that the use of Trump Organization resources probably violates 11 CFR 114.2(f). That reads, with our added emphasis:

“Corporations and labor organizations (including officers, directors or other representatives acting as agents of corporations and labor organizations) are prohibited from facilitating the making of contributions to candidates or political committees, other than to the separate segregated funds of the corporations and labor organizations. Facilitation means using corporate or labor organization resources or facilities to engage in fundraising activities in connection with any federal election …”

the president lied about knowing about the affair, and lied about the payments. he really didnt know that cohen had arranged the NDA? please. additionally, the NDA probably wasnt legally binding. you sort of have to sign a contract to make it legal.

this is not a "nothing" story. clinton got a BJ and it was the biggest story around for years. sadly, it may not even break the top 5 of trump's scandals
