Are there any physical therapy programs that are more Sports Medicine oriented? Or any that allow the student to emphasize in sports medicine at all?

And this can be anything from allowing the students to take sports medicine oriented electives or allowing their students to work graduate assistantships as athletic trainers or even a program whose philosophy and teaching base is more orthopedic or sports medicine oriented.

Shenandoah offers a dual-degree program in which the student can receive their Master's in Athletic Training and the DPT in I believe, four years. Otherwise, schools train their students to be general physical therapists. You can do residencies/fellowships after completing the DPT to become a specialist in certain aspects.

Yeah a program that allows you to obtain both a masters in athletic training and a doctorate in physical therapy would be the type of program I would be interested in!

I didnt know any schools offered that option, thanks for the heads up!

No problem. I think its the only program in the country that does that, and I know it is competitive to get into...you have to apply to the MSAT program and the DPT program individually and then they only take the top 5 applicants, even if you get into both programs individually. It's a rough application process. Are you applying this cycle?
