Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody knows any details about the DCOM curriculum - it's lecture based and follows a systems approach, correct? Is there an attendance policy, streaming lectures, etc.?

I am trying to advise someone on DO schools for the next cycle, and DCOM is in the mix. Appreciate your help.

They have a lot of information on their website. I recommend having your friend check it out. I am actually not sure about the attendance policy. I actually haven't asked that, although it is a good question. I just figure I need to be there to learn as much as I can either way. I am also not sure about the streaming lectures. I know a lot of schools, namely NYCOM, do that. As for the curriculum, yes it is systems/lecture based. http://www.lmunet.edu/dcom/academics/index.htm

The one thing that they have not put up there yet to my knowledge, is the list of rotation sites. HINT HINT.... I think that would be very helpful as I know a lot of people have questions about them. Let me know if you have any other questions. Feel free to PM me. I have cut back on SDN alot.

If I remember things from my interview correctly - all of the lectures will be video recorded and available to download from the internet so we can review them.

They say attendance is mandatory. They also say that all the lectures will be recorded and availible online. There will be a streaming lectures in Pharmacology from UT pharm school. The morning will consist of lectures and the afternoons will be lab -group A and B. One will go from 12:30 - 2:30, and one from 2:30 - 4:30. I think they were considering one afternoon off, like Friday.

Feel free to email Dr. Leo, he can give you tons of info. He has been meeting with advisors to fill them in.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the info. Video lectures seem like they'd definitely be the way to go. All the rotation sites listed are local; do students have the option to rotate elsewhere if they want to?

Even though I love where I'm at, if DCOM had opened a year earlier, I would defintely have considered it.

Today was SO NICE and warm (low to mid 60's  ) :D I was able to go to the driving range and unrust my golf swing. It felt so good to hit that little white ball again  I plan on making the most of the summer and playing as much as I can.

I checked out the courses around DCOM and they look great (and cheap  ). I am looking forward to playing some of them.

Most of the sites are pretty local (within about 1.5 hours of DCOM). We do have the ability to go anywhere with our electives in 3rd & 4th years.

I have seen a snow storm on the 5th of may in Chicago before so you never know.
Knowing my luck once i have spring brake and will be acctually able to do something other then taming books it will be raining or snowing here:laugh:

I think there is the possibility of using OIS for some elective rotations.

True, very true. I've been in Chicago all my life and have seen weird weather. That's why I take what I can get and take advantage of these nice days early in spring

Yea, well it is snowing here again. We are supposed to get 2-5 inches I think.

hey guys...just interviewed at DCOM last week...looks like as of 3/16/07 the class is 2/3rds full...meaning there are still 50 seats open

the school looks awesome! the campus is beautiful. I like the fact that there are undergrads there too....so there is a nice mix of students. and the whole idea of a party in the caves!!

I love this school. Dr.Leo is so nice. I just emailed them with couple of questions and got reply so fast. I only can imagine how nice he must be in person from that eimal.:D
I guess that DCOM is moving with a speed of light to the tops of my "want to attend" schools. And they also accept interfolio:cool:

for being the first class to start and graduate.....students will receive many extras as a result...... we will be able to set the class culture, set standards for our future classmates....start whatever organizations.

we will be babied in the fact that i am sure that dcom will want to minimize attrition and make sure we set the highest possible standard....i hope i get accepted!!!

FYI for everyone...

DocMom started a new thread, DCOM - Part 4, since this one is approaching the 1000 post limit.

Please continue to post on the new thread http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=382630

LOL! Yea, don't post here anymore! I started it because every time I tried to open this thread, my computer would freak out. It is much better on the other one.

Now everyone go away and post on the other thread.:D

I have expressed on many occassions that it is a poor idea to use SDN as a support group

I do love the frequent LECOM affiliated support groups ...

That's interesting...what about the PBL program? DCOM is lecture based.

As they say in the biz: location, location, location. Knoxville was home-base for many years; it would have been cool to go to school close by and have access to friends and family. At least K-ville has Allegiant air now and some cheap, but limited flights. For a long time it was really hard to find any deals into or out of K-ville.

try the other forums! This is the third one, there was a fourth, and we are on to our fifth!

I was just wondering if anyone planning on attending is Muslim? is there an MSA

There is a student organization for those of the Muslim faith. Whether or not it is specifically the MSA you speak of, I am not 100% sure, but something similar if not
