hey guys, glad to see this forum is showing signs of life...

just wanted to throw this out there, and take advantage of having so many interested folks checking out the forum....what are good boards for ob/gyn??? i have heard lots, but i would imagine that it is becoming an easier match yearly, as interest seems to be pretty low.

what scores are US grads needing? how about us IMG's?

i am starting to freak out about my recent step 1, and i am hoping that if i did suck on the test, that i can still have some hope. why does it take 6 weeks to find out your score, i just can't imagine!!!

thanks guys! lets keep this forum rockin:cool:

hi neilc -

From what I've seen checking out the other forums, it looks like the score to shoot for is around 220-230. OB/GYN is still considered competitive so that is why the score is around that range, however, I beg to differ because it seems to me that not many people are going into this specialty due to malpractice issues, etc.

Anyway, that's what I've seen so far, but I wouldn't worry too much...there's always exceptions to the rule!

so you're in Prague, eh? I heard it's absolutely beautiful there! I've rotated with a few peeps from your school at City of Hope here in Cali. You have any rotations there? I'm doing a Urology rotation there in February..

keep on postin'! :horns:

Prague=50 cent pitchers of beer and the biggest ratio of fine women to ugly men (based on personal voyages out there...)

As for numbers, it depends where you're looking at. Cali numbers are higher (210-220's I've been told) because of demand. Everyone and their mom wants to do residency there OKAY...STOP! No need to retaliate with this residency and that residency is better than California. My statement is a generalization and I know it.

The area I am interested in (SE but namely Florida) 200-210 will buy you a spot. Maybe someone will shed some light on the NE and MW.

By the way Neil, how come you're taking step 1 now? Are you going for this years match or the next?

And please start breathing...you passed! Trust me

GD

prague rocks, guys....come on over anytime. i don't have any plans for a cityof hope rotation, but send me a pm of who i can talk to. i have some open time next fall, would love to do some in cali. how did my colleagues do over here in the states? i am a bit nervous going into a US hospital, not sure what to expect. we did a semester of IM and surgery last year, but we basically went on rounds and learned how to do a H&P, and learned how to hord retractors and cut sutures in surgery. yippee....oh well, gonna jump in with both feet and i will catch up quickly, if that is needed.

i am up in san luis obispo now, i have a few rotations in the states starting in a couple weeks. i actually am shooting for match 2006, as i am in a 6 year program. we do 3 years basic science (just finished) and 3 years clinicals (starting now)...that is why i am a fourth year just taking the exam. actually, i am taking it early compared to most of my classmates, they tend to do the 4th year or 5th year deal...

anyhow, i am gonna trust you on the step results, GD. i came out ok with how i did, then the more i thought about it, the more i think i blew it....but, i think i am just freakin out....typical, eh?;)

Do any of you guys have access to the APGO residency directory? I've found that to be pretty useful for getting an idea of what kind of board scores each residency is interested in. Not every program posts their cutoffs and 1st year resident averages, but many do. If you guys don't have access, I'd be willing to look up any programs you're interested in and see if they have their info posted.

Hey Hercules,

Thanks for the APGO info. I don't have access to it but am interested in the Univ. of Florida Programs.

Thank you in advance

I have access to APGO too, so I can look up programs if you let me know.

My opinion on APGO is that it isnt worth the $$- I find it very outdated. What I have done is opened the program's website then the APGO site, and the numbers ( surgeries, deliveries, board scores, # of residents, etc) usually dont match. Often the program will list that they have no IMGs, when they have several, or vice versa. As an IMG, this definitely makes a difference for me in terms of my application/chances.

Hey GR or other people headed for the SE- what are the IMG friendly programs that you know of?

Hey JD

Believe it or not, I don't know of many IMG friendly programs in the SE. The ones that I've heard of through the grapevine include Orlando Regional and Morehouse. Emory and MCG have been known for considering IMG's also but then again this is hearsay.

Good luck with the process!

hi jd807 or anyone with APOG info, how about for the following:

1) Brigham and Women's

2) UCSF

3) Standford

4) Brown

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing all the apgo info! Immensely helpful!

Can anyone access Cedars-sinai information?

Thanks!
