Look, I’d love an extra $12,000 per year that I didn’t earn. It’d be great for a few months, and then inflation would catch up, and we’d be no better off than we are now.

Then the companies that are being fleeced to fund this program will either fold or leave America.. then we’ll be worse off..

I don't know much about inflation. But I think inflation happens when you print out money, not when you transfer money.

Taxes have been going down for decades. Where is the inflation?

VAT is a tax. It doesn’t print new money. Instead of the tax going to the government and letting the government decide how to allocate the tax, it goes directly to our hands. It cuts government bureaucracy and let people decide how to best spend their money.

Most of the time technology and entertainment will drive deflation. People will spend more money on new gizmos and gadgets. A new iphone, a new tesla, and new big screen. Once there is no more new technology what will you spend your money on? Big houses and etc. Every big music festival out there is completely booked out, the super bowl was booked out at $9k a ticket. Everyone has the latest Iphone or galaxy. Once silicone valley runs out of ideas prices will go up. These people building luxury apartments are banking on inflation to make them very wealthy. They built their buildings with cheap imported steal while the dollar was high. Then Trump is devaluing the dollar and putting up tariffs. Then everyone will have extra change and be able to spend more on things like housing. Then these luxury apartments will sky rocket in value and their rent will sky rocket because of demand.

But the point remains, prices will catch up eventually (IMHO sooner rather than later) and then it really reveals that UBI is nothing more than “here’s free money to vote for me”..

If UBI is ever implemented, the best thing you can do is to hurry and use that check to pay off debt as quick as you can, because the cost of the life you’re living right now will proportionally increase based on the amount of UBI distributed.

I’m still waiting for your answer on whether you feel that racism against Asians is the reason people rejected UBI?

Trump during his campaign stated that people with modest homes paid off would be rewarded and everyone else will be punished. People with money in savings will be rewarded. People with no savings will be punished. So, if you're in a modest home and have money in savings vote for trump again. If you're not in that vote trump will punish you.

It's ok for you to hear but disagree. It's not ok that the media mix up and black out Yang.

Authentic Hillbilly White here. There is racism towards Asians in my community. But it's that type of racism that gives the group in question an advantage. The Appalachian thought would be like "An Asian man is doing math things? Well hell fire, Martha, we should pay attention!"

I listened to his talk about UBI, I did the math and realized the obscene cost of that program. I checked his website and his only listed source of income for the program was by closing tax loopholes which would “cover a lot of it” but didn’t identify where the rest would come from. It was enough for me to recognize UBI for what it was.. a straw man.. a house of cards..

it was enoufh for me to stop paying attention to him, as it was the main plank in his platform.

This thread is weird.. I read through the whole thing and I ended up at the end wondering - “what the hell is UBI”?

.2% of the U.S. population is homeless. 26% of the homeless population has been hospitalized for mental illness. I would just dump a bunch of money into mental health and put every homeless person into a mental health program.
