Hey,

i am wondering what the procedure is if i want to study medicine in aus. I am in the U.S. right now. I think i need to take the mcat? is that right? What else will i need? Will i need to have a bachloers degree or something? How does the process work?

I used to live in australia for more than a decade, and i am an australian citizen living abroad. I dont know if that plays a factor or not.

Thanks !

As an Australian citizen, you would almost surely need to take the GAMSAT and not the MCAT if you want to do grad entry (if you have a uni degree), or you'd take the UMAT if you did undergrad entry (straight out of high school). There are 8 grad entry and 7 undergrad (Melbourne and Western Australia have both).

so if i do my study here in the states and get my bachelores degree in biology, then i would have to take the gamsat right? am i understanding it right?

where can i take the gamsat? i dont live in aus, is it offered here in the U.S.?
How competitive is the gamsat, i assume you need high scores, but is it really competitive?

Yes.

...London, Singapore, Washington DC.

Competitiveness depends on the school. Melbourne and UQ seem to be pickiest for GAMSAT (somewhere around 90%ile), others less so. but it's not normalized w/ MCAT and it's a very different test, so it's not easy to compare difficulty, ALTHOUGH GAMSAT is more of an aptitude test than the MCAT. In fact, you technically don't need to take any specific courses to take the GAMSAT, but I'd advise premed to have been taken nonetheless.
