Army specialists going OCONUS

Hello!

What are the chances of an army specialist getting an OCONUS assignment? I have heard peds and endo are pretty good odds of getting an OCONUS duty station, but what about a specialty like perio? I’m considering applying for perio, but I also have interest in getting to serve OCONUS (ideally Korea or Japan) at some point if possible. Any insight is appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Depends on your branch... if you are a periodontist and want korea, I think only Army has a spot. It's not as popular as other spots, so you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting it as long as there is a vacancy. If there's no vacancy, then you'll have to wait 3 years or so until you are eligible to move again.

If you want Japan, then navy and/or air force should have a periodontist position.... not too sure about it
