Arkansas EMTs moving to Licensure

I just read a letter from the AR Dept. of Health, and we're moving to "licensure" and away from "certification." Our titles will change. Basics will be referred to as EMTs, I's will be Advanced EMTs, and medics will be Paramedics. As of now we'll still have to re-up every two years, but according to the letter that's subject to change. And here I am hoping to get my medic credentials back this fall.

Ohio is making a similar move away from certifications. However EMT-I's in Ohio will become EMTs and similarly EMT-P will be referred Paramedic.

The letter mentioned the SOPs, but I haven't yet had a look at them. Thanks for the link.

This will most likely be a fairly common move. This is not a new concept. These changes are a result of the national EMS SOP model implementation. As of this year, the NREMT started taking steps to make this transition.
