*2016-2017 Washington State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I contacted admissions today and they said that admissions decisions will be given by mid April. Looks like we may have a couple of more weeks of torture sdn friends
Thank you for the update!!! Three months and counting....

It's posted right on their website - they will be giving final notifications of status by the 17th

Edit: Which has now been changed to next years, but as of a little while ago this said the 17th, I believe someone else posted a screen cap earlier ;

Who knows, at this rate, it actually might be April 9th, 2018 when we hear our decisions.

Hey, at least I'll not be waiting for answer here as long as OHSU - April 30th for the hold pool, really? So. Much. Waiting.

This April Fool's joke was so close to reality that I didn't even realize you typed 2018 at first.

:whoa:

well, this is awkward.

edit: oh yeah, re: April 17th. I think that was my post actually. Hahaha. But this whole process is like a TV show where everything's made up and the dates don't matter.

I was informed that no letters from applicants will be given to the admissions committee, as this would not create a level playing field for those that do not submit them.

I am a tiny bit confused by this because our e-mails say, "We will notify applicants, who have yet to be made an offer and have not received a denial of admission, with an opportunity to be placed on the waitlist. This group will be allowed to submit an update." So, I wonder if they are not accepting them just yet or if they absolutely don't want an update or letter ever for the rest of this season. I imagine that just want us to keep holding on (cause you know we'll make it through we'll make it through)

I sent another letter after the status email to Leila Harrison and she said that the adcom doesn't take into account LOIs, only using the AMCAS, secondary and interview info. After the waitlist is created, then those with a spot on the waitlist will be able to send in extra documentation.

Well, since we have another 1-2 weeks of waiting/torture, let's keep the speculation game going along hehe..

What cut off waitlist number do people think is considered "safeish"? For example OHSU waitlist typically goes to 40 consistently each year, so it's considered good if you got below 40 on the waitlist. I believe waitlist spot number 45 was the cut off last year who got in off the list. But that was for a class size of ~160. Given the class size of 60 here, I'm thinking maybe top 10 waitlisters may be considered in the game still? Thoughts anyone?

I honestly think they'll have a pretty high yield so even #10 might be iffy. Also, as a side note, seeing that ESFCOM will take updates once the waitlist is formulated, I don't think the waitlist will be a true ranked one like UW has.

Considering everyone should be from Washington for that sweet in-state tuition, I would assume almost everyone would choose to go to this school unless they got into UW. I imagine very little WL movement, like maybe 5 spots.

Well there we go. They sent out an email outlining basically all the questions asked on here. They are really on top of that game.

Lolol me too. I had to reread "All those denied up to this point have been notified" about 3 times before I was comfortable again.

If I am reading this correctly, there are still more rejections to come. "all those denied up to this point...". They probably still probably have rejections from this week's adcom meeting that they are going to send out. We're not out of the woods yet friends :(.

If anything, I appreciate that the admissions department is being more transparent at this point. It's great that they are listening to what we are saying and addressing concerns.

No we're not, however we are also not rejected at the time of that e-mail. Cup half full?

orientation is from aug 16-19, with the white coat ceremony on aug 18. those were the dates that i was given during my phone call with dr. teraguchi as an accepted student. i assume classes start 1-2 days after

I think I got my info from the interview packet, anyone mind checking theirs? I'm not able to at the moment

Classes start August 21st. It's under the 1st year schedule on their site.

How does class starting date affect the wait list group?

Later class start date = more time the waitlist group holds onto some hope that someone will switch out their acceptance maybe?

I guess most people don't re-apply for next cycle right away

Not usually without some positive changes/additions to improve your odds for the next cycle. Thankfully ESFCOM doesn't have a "3 strike out" rule such as UW as to how many times you can reapply.

When do you guys think we'll hear offers next week? Since they had the admissions committee meeting already, I'm sure they are sitting on the offers already. My bet is Monday.

I hope to god its either a rejection or acceptance. I cannot deal with yet another WL. Two years of WL....

Given that about 6 of the last 30 acceptance offers were reported on SDN, that gives us about a 20% chance of knowing anything by refreshing this site... Sometimes I play the lotto and that is about a 0.0000001% chance.... I like our odds.

My money is on that they will continue doing the phone call for acceptances like they did for the first round. But then again I usually lose when I go to the casino, and have yet to win the powerball, so

Nothing here yet. The email said the week of the 10th, and knowing that this cycle has been unique, the calls will probably go out on Friday :p.

Rejection email this morning. Interviewed March 10th. Best of luck to you friends, it's been great getting to know you the last few tireless months. Hope to work alongside you one day as physicians.
