Hello everyone and congratulations to those of you who have been accepted. I am a 41 year old, retired CEO who has decided to go back to school and pursue the dream of becoming a physician. As I was a business major, I still have about two years of prerequisites to complete before medical school and am currently finishing my first semester of those classes. I have enjoyed reading most of the posts here, but am having great difficulty with the acronyms. May I request people use words rather than abbreviations when describing classes, tests, test prep companies, medical schools, programs, etc? Thanks in advance and best wishes to you all. I look forward to forming relationships with some of you as we endeavor on this journey together.

That's a lot to ask of us. The SDN community has a common language that we've all had to learn, which makes posting a lot more efficient. As a newcomer, I suggest you take the time to learn the acronyms via the search function or just ask us if you're confused by something. Good luck on your studies.

jshayneo, I'm under impression you took midnight0il's response (and our approval of it) the wrong way. Look, most of the people here are very friendly and supportive and help each other a lot; if you ask a reasonable question, it will almost certainly be answered promptly and comprehensively. However - what? - thousands of people have been using this forum for years and developed a language that, just as midnigh0il pointed out, makes communication more efficient. Every newcomer to this forum - midnight0il and myself included - had to learn this language, which is not much to ask at all for the wealth of useful information and the strength of support. Just as midnight0il said, feel free to ask questions if you don't understand an acronym etc., but asking many people who've been using these acronyms for years to stop using them is really too much. After all, in Rome do as Romans do. (Plus, if you're planning to go into medicine, get ready for a lot more acronyms, the meaning of some of which you may have to decipher as you go along.)

If you want to be a physician you also need to have patience, and be comfortable asking and answering questions frequently, so why don't we give jshayneo a break. The point has been made already.

Just preparing for things to come. I'm just doing a little friendly joking around...thick skin...yet another trait that's good to have as a Doc...especially as a non-trad (if I had a dollar for every time I was referred to as 'old man' during med school...)

You'll encounter lack of patience again and again throughout training. It's an unfortunate truth. Damn, the OR alone...again, get used to it. not tryin to be a jerk. I'm just tellin it like it is.
