I got an invite to Rochester, NY on 8/29 via email. (the interview is Sept. 10)

About 2 weeks ago... but those invites aren't all mine -- I just compiled the list from the other thread.
 
Hey guys/gals...any chance I might recommend that we just use one thread for interview dates, rejections, and invitations? All invitations should be color-coded green on the other thread. The link is

Last year, I believe they had multiple threads going, and it seemed to confuse people a lot. No biggie if you guys don't agree with this, we'll just post everything to 2 threads.
 
Hm I kinda like to keep the available dates and the actual invites separate -- I feel like knowing what dates are offered for interviews is different from the actual dates that people were offered, and whether phone/email. :shrug: Don't really care *that* much though...

I agree...It would be kind of nice to know that people are being invited for interviews...just to know what is going on with the programs. But whatever.
 
I got an interview with the University of Utah, invited by email 8/23. But I was doing an away rotation there so they interviewed me early.

Did anyone out there get a U of Utah interview invitation who did not do an away rotation there this year? U of U is trying something new this year and interviewing the students early who have been accepted to their core clinical rotation. However, last year, they issued their interview invites in mid-October and I believe they did it by phone call. When I was at U of U for a research rotation, I learned they don't really begin reviewing apps until September (aka the 08/23 date may not be their only release of interviews). Just throwing this out there for anyone who is a Utah-hopeful ;)

What are the top 5 programs from this list? I don't know. I would guess Yale, U Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Rush, Rochester. Am I off base?
 
Texas tech has good numbers. I think Wisconsin and Rochester are decent. Hard to say about the rest.

This thread gives me anxiety. I'm happy I have several interviews, but get super bummed out when I see schools I really want interviews at (Baylor, UC Irvine) pass me over.
 
That doesn't mean they won't send out more rounds of interviews though. But it does kinda suck.

The schools that I've received interviews from and the schools that have so far glossed me over seem pretty arbitrary. Do you guys know what the deciding factors usually are when someone offers an interview versus not? I'm assuming it isn't just based on step scores and letters..

LOL. Seems arbitrary because it is--very much so. I had a large group of medical school classmates apply my year, and there was a huge element of randomness to our collective interview invitations and rejections.

There are two very general rules you may notice, and beyond that, things get pretty arbitrary: 1) You will get the majority of your invites from programs in your broader geographic area. 2) You can expect few invites to top programs unless you really are a stellar candidate.

In some instances, even those broad rules don't seem to hold. There are sure to be a few instances were certain people in your class will be invited to very good programs and you will be left scratching your head and wondering what on earth the admissions committee saw in their application (or if they even read the things). Of course, this is evidence that other things like connections, letters, etc., are, for better or worse, a huge factor in this process.

Try not to let the randomness drive you too crazy. It is what it is.

According to the email i recieved from them they have dates all the way til 12/9. So they are probably offering that date to the people they are extending interviews to now
