In First Aid (2016 pg. 192; 2015 pg. 200) it says that microbial resistance to our adaptive immune system is "not heritable," whereas microbial resistance to our innate immune system "persists through generations and does not change within an organisms lifetime." Any idea what the heck this means?
I've narrowed it down to two schools, but could use some advice on what may or may not be better based on the experience of others. I loved both schools and they were my top choices after interviewing! That's why it is such a hard choice...I'll list what I see as pro's and con's to both schools...
Greetings mortals!
Below is a list of what I think are the best resources for Step 1 prep. I am not endorsed by anyone if you're wondering. I have wasted an unfathomable amount of money getting a hold of other resources, some of which were pure garbage, so this list really took some time and...
Hello
I am a US IMG interested in a neurology residency. My step 1 score is 248 and I am honestly confused about the competitiveness of this score. I checked the most recent Charting Outcomes for the IMG of those who matched in 2013, and 248 seems to be quite competitive, but those data reflect...
Hello,
I know this question have been asked many times over here, but I still would prefer to ask it from my own point of view.
1- I would like to know what are my chances as an IMG to get matched into one of the top-tier programs in IM (i.e: John Hopkins, UCSF, Duke, Yale... etc)?
2- Is...
Hey guys, I'm retaking the COMLEX 1 in 6 weeks and in need of a fresh board review schedule. I just scored above 300 and need the highest score i can get. I've done pathoma, sketchy, combank, and about to purchase u--world. any advice would be great.
Hey guys,
This might be a weird question but I was just reading the updated immunization schedule/new vaccines. For example, there is now a Meningococcal Serotype B vaccine (although, sketchy micro will tell you otherwise lol). Should we expect Step 1 to incorporate these new changes into the...
Hey,
I've been using Picmonic to get though my classes (especially bugs and drugs) and think it's awesome. But now as I study for step 1 I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to remember the hundreds and hundreds of Picmonics I need to on test day. Did anyone who used Picmonic for step 1...
The First Aid/USMLE-Rx team would like to offer you a great deal ($80 off) on a 6 month Step 1 Qmax subscription. This is an A-rated question bank from the authors of First Aid for the USMLE Step 1. They will even let you purchase the subscription now and delay its start date for up to 6 months...
So I'm planning my step 1 study schedule and I'd guess I'd like a sanity check to make sure I don't miss anything important. I'm taking my test in early June, so I should have about 22 weeks before the test (5 of which are my dedicated study period). I have USMLERx Flash Facts and QMax, UWorld...

I am planning on taking Step 1 in March or April. Does anyone want/need a study partner? I am located in Cupertino, CA. Study materials will be UFAP, Anki & SketchyMicro. PM me or post in the thread below. Thank You.
Anyone have success using this for Step 1 prep? It looks pretty awesome- I'm almost tempted to use it instead of First Aid but part of me thinks that would be a stupid idea. I just can't seem to learn anything from First Aid in the format it's in- Crush is basically First Aid in paragraph form. HALP
We hear about must-have resources all the time. I want to get a sense of what everyone's favorites are and how best to use them. What I've heard so far: Qmax, uworld, panthoma, and firecracker seem to work for most people. A gunner's schedule may look like: Firecracker daily, begin qmax one year...
Obviously, I've come over from pre-allo and hope that you will indulge me.
Do surgical residencies and surgical subspecialties always require very high board scores or is there a range?
Also, does anyone know of a correlation between old MCAT scores and Step 1 and 2 scores?
For those of you attending schools that administer CBSE exams, what do you think about failing intentionally so you get to retake it (and see a whole new set of questions). From what I understand, CBSE exams are exactly like NBMEs except only schools can buy them. So if you were to do the above...
Hey guys,
I've looked around a bit and I haven't seen a thread in regards to what study material everyone is using for USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX.
I'm a first year and have already purchased the USMLE First Aid book, but I'm looking for a good review series as well that goes a little more into...

Hi Guys,
I've been lucky enough to get a few acceptances up to this point, and I was just wondering how much of a factor step 1 study time should be considered in making my decision. Of three schools, one "compresses" pre-clinical to 1.5 years and you take Step 1 early and get less dedicated...
Perhaps perfectly timed this baby to use my entire "independent study" time for USMLE Step 1 as my maternity leave, yay. Well, that and I will probably take the "oh, I failed step one" additional time off (borrowed from fourth year). However, I need to make a plan (calendar/etc) for my Step 1...
Hi,
I am a 4th year medical student at NYU. I took Step 1 last February and scored a 271. A big part of studying for this exam involved knowing how to manage my time efficiently, which resources to use and how to prioritize all the information we have to memorize. I love doing all those things...

Hello. So I received my Step 2 CK score today. My step 1 was a 250, step 2 is a 245. I admittedly did not study as hard for this one. Do you think it will hurt me if I tell programs on interviews? Can I just tell programs I don't know my score yet?
Some other info: US grad. I am top half of my...

I took the Becker USMLE Step 1 course in Dallas in 2015. It cost me $6000. I'm selling my textbooks at a fraction of the cost. These are new, full color notes...
Has anyone used this deck for Step 1/COMLEX and did reasonably well? I'm curious about its efficacy as opposed to Rx. I understand that they are both pretty much a Q&A of First Aid? Thoughts?

Does anyone have experience using both of these flashcard sets for learning First Aid? FlashFacts seems pretty decent- or at least it's way more active than sitting there trying to read First Aid (also a good way of reinforcing things and identifying weak areas after one read through of a First...
I am a Board-certified Radiology attending at a top medical school with step 1, 2, and 3 scores >265. I trained at Harvard and Johns Hopkins. I have over 15 years of tutoring experience and tutor for all of the USMLE Steps.
