Sung to the tune of Lahaina Luna...

I am going to KCOM,
To KCOM,
KCOM,
KCOM,
KCOM,
KCOM?.
Where the cornfields are green
You will find me
In Kirksville?K---C---O---M---,
They say that KCOM?s the greatest
And I agree
?Cause KCOM is the only place for me!
That?s where you?ll find me
Down by the OTM Lab,
Watching the OMM Specialists,
Dissecting cadavers in anatomy,
The morning commute is only 8 minutes,
In Kirksville,
K---C---O---M---!

hmm I'd have to say

UNECOM- close to home, gorgeous, and 4 seasons
WVSOM- also really nice, great facilities
VCOM- great place however not fully accredited yet which could be a problem for some

Hmm. Strange nobody mentioned UNT-COM and only one nod for DMU-COM. I like them based purley on marketing and the warm fuzzy I get from their websites. aaaahhhhh! the warm fuzzies!

After visiting all of of them for interviews....

-UMDNJ
-NSU
-CCOM

I interview at UHS, NSU, VCOM, PCOM, CCOM and DMU. I have to say that I really liked all of them with the exception of VCOM (I felt like the town was a little small for me, but the school seemed great).

I have been accepted to every school, and what I am finding out is the best schools are ones that are the best for me not necessarily anyone else. I based my opinions on cost of living, jobs for my spouse (International Trade Law), and my overall feeling and warm fuzzies I had for the schools. That said. My top choices are:

PCOM, CCOM, and NSU in no particular order and that still changes from day to day.

1.) DMU

2.) UHS

3.)PCOM

I guess I base my decisions on cost of living, and well established programs. Also, my personal physician and my childrens' doc all went to DMU and loved it.

 That's funny. I'll have to give another nod for DMU. We really are warm and fuzzy. Especially when it starts to get chilly :)

DMU has cute chicks...as does CCOM - I mean that's what I look for in a med school =)

haha jk.

For me, the DO schools I would rank would be:

1. CCOM
2. DMU

I choose ccom over DMU only because I love the city of Chicago. THat's about it.

DMU has probably the friendliest campus I've seen.

1. OSUCOM
2. TCOM
3. AZCOM

OSUCOM without a doubt

NSUCOM (sunshine, beach, dress code (scrubs), close to bf)
UNECOM (nice Anatomy Lab, beautiful area, 4 seasons)
LECOM (new Florida campus in 2004!)

1) AZCOM
2) AZCOM
3) AZCOM

then as follows:

CCOM
DMU
UHSCOM

go coyotes!

1) TUCOM
2) CCOM
3) DMCOM

Won't know 'til I go through the interviews. Have one at TUCOM on December 16th. Wish me luck. I'm really excited!!! Good luck to everyone else that will interview, has interviewed, or are awaiting interviews.

I guess I should join in on the fun. :)

1. KCOM
2. OSU-COM
3. I can't give a third place ranking since I didn't apply and visit anywhere else.

*When searching for which schools to apply to, these were the two that stood out to me. In the end, I couldn't tell much of a difference between the schools except OSU-COM is in a large city whereas KCOM isn't. They are both great schools.

*I have also heard a lot of good things about MSU-COM.

1. CCOM
2. KCOM
3. UHS

1. KCOM
2. DMU

These are my picks, although I am having a hard time deciding where to attend. As for the 3rd, I didn't apply to any other DO schools.

1. COMP
2. PCOM
3. NYCOM

Since there's no clear cut ranking of DO schools, location is my next most important criterion.

Based solely on interviews and location...I only applied to these three...

1. UMDNJ-SOM - great administration, faculty, and students, brand new facilities, and research opportunities
2. PCOM - rich history, awesome students, seeing the sixers in the cafeteria, RESPECT in philly hospitals.
3. NYCOM - Actually didn't really like NYCOM, just didn't vibe well, and I am from NY...so it is on the bottom of my list unfortunatelyb

1) UHS-COM

If you are interested in a medical school that places emphasis on
research, primary care, and a systems structured curriculum then I would definately recommend
University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (UHS-COM). The school is currently in the process of building a brand new research and educational facility that is 46,000 sqr feet. This facility will be used to conduct clinical research trials and also provide basic science labs for students to use. The school does an excellent job of providing its students with early clinical experiences. The standardized patient program is a program where students interview patient actors. In the second yr. students perform physicals on elementary school kids. The curriculum at the school is excellent and it logically makes sense for medicine to be presented in such a systems organized fashion. All the basic science and clinical disciplines + OMT are perfectly blended together and presented in sections that focus on one particular area of the human body (e.g.Musculoskeletal Section, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, etc. ...). The above description is the reason why I decided to attend UHS-COM and why I feel it is one of the best medical schools in the country.

I'm not sure if it's just me in the dark with these acronyms, but what about Western in CA? What's the acronym for that?

ok....so Im biased as Im an MSIII, but come on man....LECOM!!!!
Where else do the dean and president represent themselves as gods? These soon-to-be-put-up pillars are the highlight of the new building....could it be possible that they are putting them up in FL as well?....only time will tell...Long live Ferrettiland.

I had actually forgotten about those statues...

" 12th Century god of Aesculapius manifests himself to modern dean of the osteopathic medical school, Dr. Silvia Ferretti of LECOM in ten feet marble columns."

Now, I have seen and heard some funny things in my life, but this one takes the cake. That is by far the most ridiculous, arrogant, and EXPENSIVE POS I have ever seen.

"Dr. John Ferretti, Founder of LECOM and shepherd of the last child left behind, without health care." and " Dr. John Ferretti.
Alter glass, symbol of consecration of his gift of LECOM to Erie."

I know what that dark cloud above LECOM is: the Ferrettis' egos.

I keep them in "my favorites"...I use the page when I feel down (it makes me laugh).
I am anxiously awaiting the raising of the statues....I only hope DOtobe that they are up for our graduation in 2005. I really want to show my parents.

Show your parents - and take your picture in front of them, right? ;)
If they are there I will want a picture of them, because I don't think anybody would believe a Ferretti shrine actually existed unless I got a picture.

Funny....
Everyplace I have rotated (except Millcreek) that has former LECOM students as residents, has at least one printed pic of the pillars in the lounge. Possibly as a shrine to the ferrettis themselves.;)
