wrote vs took OAT

So I've been reading some posts. Some people say that they "wrote the OAT" and others say they "took the OAT". I say "took" the OAT sounds correct to me. But what is the correct way to say it?

I think Canadians tend to say wrote

Americans usually say they "took" a test at school. Canadians usually say they "wrote" a test at school. Same meaning - just colloquialism at play.
