So, I'm interested in neurosurgery, but I have a question about research. I'm an MS3 now and I did well on step 1 (257) and got honors in about half of the pre-clinicals at a top 20 school, blah blah blah. My concern is that I won't really have any research experience in NS by the time I apply, and I know NS is a research-intensive field. I guess I'm just wondering how important it would be for me to try to cram research in somewhere before the apps go out 4th year, given my other stats. Is it a death sentence for my chances at top programs if I don't have any or if I'm doing NS research during the app process 4th year? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and I did ~2yrs of research in undergrad, but it was in C. elegans genetics, so I'm assuming no one cares about this.
