Ok, obviously if you do well in an SMP, particularly one where you take classes alongside M1 students at a U.S. medical school, it will go a long way to make up for a sub par undergraduate GPA.

But if you apply to U.S. allo schools the summer before you start classes, like many have suggested, does including the sentence "Currently enrolled in XXXX SMP, taking xyz classes, grades will be sent as soon as available" -- will this sentence alone really make a difference?

Has it actually worked for anyone here? Does anyone know anyone that this worked for? Or is an SMP only effective if you apply the year after you finish?
