my top reasons:

1. we operate in the abdomen, pelvis and retroperitoneum
2. you can chose to do minor nips all day or huge cancer wacks
3. subspecialize in peds, reconstruction, oncology, female - good diversity
4. the personality of urologists is generally upbeat, funny and makes them enjoyable to work with
5. not a large amount of trauma making call more reasonable
6. lifestyle is great, with good financial security
7. job security, 33% of all practices were looking for a partner last year, GU keeps their numbers small


looking at schlongs all day is not really what we do at all, that would be like saying general surgeons do proctoscopies all day long. It is just one component of what we do.

I read this post along with your "ENT sucks...do ophtho" one. It's clear that you're a very tactful and diplomatic person.

It's a shame you're not into urology...I bet the competitiveness of the field would drop with you in its ranks.
