Burnt out is an understatement. How anyone could do this for two years is beyond my comprehension.

I take it you're burnt out?

Burnt out since October. The staff pharmacists this year said "Usually the residents don't start hating this place until Jan."

Second year of this is crazy talk!

C'mon you guys need to buck up. I find that the 2nd year is not nearly as demanding. Maybe it is because I am used to it. Maybe I dont put as much energy into it. I dont know. I do know that the preceptors give you more freedom to do what you want. Keep this in mind if you think about doing a 2nd year. I will say I do not think a sencond year is as necessary as it used to be to land a good job. Good luck with the rest of the year. Think of how your medical counterparts are feeling...

Just suck it up and do a second year you pansies. To me, one year and then stopping is almost pointless.

If I didn't want to lock myself into something, I would consider it. My residency offers a second year program and I have been thinking about it, but there are no openings in that area in my hospital and probably won't be for a while. Or anywhere else in the city. I don't want to have less options of where to go when I'm finished. And I really don't want to move. Second years aren't for everyone I guess.

I'm applying for a PGY-2 residency in Critical Care. In my area you can't get a specialist position in Critical Care (or really any specialty area) without a specialty residency. I knew when I started what I was interested in and knew that I was going to dedicate 2 years of my life to this. Two years no matter how difficult isn't that much time when you consider the amount that you learn and the opportunities afforded to you when you finish.

:hungover:

Just imagine, that it only goes downhill from there. With my *real* job, I slept less than 5 hours a night for the last two weeks, and was on the road for a week and a half, and I feel like I either died or just wish I did. Anyway, next week is the Thanksgiving week and I will have four whole days off! Can you imagine? FOUR days in a row! *dances*
