Does anyone know of organizations or some other way for a medical student to volunteer in Indonesia/Thailand for disaster relief? Thanks.

Here is a page with links to various organizations. (The original page prompts you to donate rather than actually go there, however, if you click on the links of the homepages of several organizations, you can learn more about "on the ground" opportunities).

Also, for who may be interested, I have found that the UN Volunteers Program has recently developed an Online Volunteer Partnership Program. Read more about it at

TSUNAMI RELIEF DONATION CENTER OPENED IN MANHATTAN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:******************
January 5, 2005

Contact: Robert Rowen 646-270-3222
************** Nick Spanos 646-879-5357

In affiliation with the American Sri Lanka Buddhist Association, a tsunami
relief donation center has been opened at 528 Canal Street in Manhattan at the
corner of the West Side Highway. The center is open from 9am to 9pm, seven days
a week.

The center is asking Manhattan residents and businesses to donate items that are badly needed by the tsunami victims. (We do not accept money) Since all labor for both collection and distribution is voluntary, and shipping containers and shipment to Sri Lanka have already been donated, one hundred percent of all donated items get into the hands of the people that need them.

-**First Aid: acetaminophen, (Tylenol) antibiotics, antiseptic, intravenous
infusions - saline and dextrose, anti-inflammatory, rubber gloves, disposable
syringes, suture material, dressing, gauze, bandages, plaster, old eye
glasses, toiletries, women's sanitary napkins (please do not bring tampons since they
are not ordinarily used by Sri Lankan women)**

-**Water purification tablets, water pumps, water purification equipment,
generators

-**Canned milk for babies, baby bottles, baby diapers, baby powder, baby
clothes

-**Household Items: candles, (no matches, please!) flashlights, batteries,
pots and pans, hand held can openers, kettles, plates, cups, napkins, thermos flasks, plastic tarps, tents, bedding, blankets, towels
