When to take USMLE II

Any advice on when to take Step II, I am interested in a competitive residency either ortho, rads, etc. The way my schedule works out is that I will not be able to take Step II until March/April of my fourth year. Do ortho residencies require Step II be taken and passed prior to turning in matchlists.
