When to apply for residency as a FMG who is in a 6 year program?

Hi all,

I am a FMG from Europe in my 5th year in a 6 year program (which is the norm here) finishing medical school in the summer of 2021

I am planning on applying for residency in the US. Already have UCSE, etc.


I have a simple question:
- Should I apply for a residency program in Septemberac 2020 which will be the beginning of my 6th year?
- Would it be a red flag if I apply for residency in September 2021 after I finish my 6th yer (equivalent to 4th year in the US).
