Any suggestions for what I need to work on over the coming year (planning to apply after graduation)
  • Junior
  • ORM
  • TX resident, T20 undergrad
  • MCAT: taking in August
  • GPA/sGPA: 3.84/3.70
    • Have one C+ in science class, but upward trend since
  • Major: Neuroscience
  • Minor: Biochemistry & Spanish
  • Research: Started research sophomore year (been in 3 labs since - mostly behavioral neuroscience/neurolinguistics research), worked full time in a lab last summer and was first author on a conference abstract that my PI presented, considering doing an honors thesis (1000+ hours total)
  • Volunteering (clinical): ~50 hours currently, aiming for at least 150 by graduation next year
  • Volunteering (nonclinical): Tutoring refugee students (~1.5 hrs week), working with adults with intellectual disabilities (~4 hours month), women's resource center on campus (1 hour/week), ASB during sophomore year
  • Shadowing: Neurosurgery and neurology ~10 hours, Internal medicine ~ 30 hours, Hematology ~30 hours
  • Extracurriculars: Have officer positions in two clubs (treasurer and logistics coordinator), flag football, been a bio lab TA for two semesters (4 hours a week)
  • Employment: Working as a tutor since sophomore year (~4 hours a week), was working in a lab full time over summer (40 hours/week)

Get a high score on MCAT and get clinical experience. Other then that, you're application looks very solid. How many hours combined do you have of non-clinical volunteering?
