Hello everyone!
So I graduated to UC Davis 2 years ago with my mind set on becoming an MD or DO. I scored a 500 on an MCAT which is too low for MD and DO schools especially with my GPA: 3.43 with a science GPA of 3.53. I spoke to an ER physician I used to scribe who told me about Podiatry. Interstingly enough, he mentioned if he could do it all over again he would go into podiatry due to there lifestyle (no night shifts or weekends, is this true???) I am strongly considering it especially after doing a bit of research on it and finding that there's opportunities in going into surgery. So what are my chances getting in to a pod school. I'm looking at applying to CSPM, western, and temple. I have no experience shadowing a podiatrist but I do have around 2000 hours of clinical experience due to my gap years. I really appreciate the feedback!
What @ill be a doc soon said.
I understand it is significantly harder to get into a Cali MD school with those stats.
However the newer schools would have no problem taking you.
If you decide to go podiatry, the stats will not be holding you back, it will be your gut.
Shadow thoroughly and ask yourself: Am I using podiatry to replace the feeling of wanting to be an MD/DO? Will I come to terms with and accept the scope of practice of podiatry versus MD/DO? Will I be ok with clipping toe nails and fitting orthotics and not just selling myself with the surgical opportunities?
