Hello everyone, thank you for your time and any feedback!
  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
    • cGPA: 3.43
    • sGPA: 3.33
  2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown
    • 520 (130,129,130,131)
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
    • Texas, USA
  4. Ethnicity and/or race
    • White, male
  5. Undergraduate institution or category
    • Louisiana State University for two years, dropped out and I am now at the University of Houston
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
    • Volunteering at a hospital: 140 hours; I’ll probably volunteer here for another 100 hours over the summer.
    • Data Collector for the CDC for their annual HIV risk survey. I interviewed injection drug users and administered HIV and hepatitis C tests along with providing counseling: 640 hours
      1. I am not entirely sure if this counts as clinical experience.
  7. Research experience and productivity
    • 550 hours as a research intern over a summer, resulted in a poster.
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
    • Hematology/Oncology: 60 hours
    • Plastic Surgery: 25 hours
    • Ophthalmology: 39 hours
    • Primary Care: 3 hours
  9. Non-clinical volunteering
    • Volunteering at a food bank: 8 hours, I plan on volunteering here a lot more over the summer and before submitting my application.
    • Volunteering at a local cultural outreach society: 16 hours
    • Tutoring at a public school in an under-served area: 30 hours
    • Volunteering at the annual Special Olympics held on the submarine base: 48 hours
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
    • Navy, nuclear qualified electrician’s mate on a submarine: 6 years
  11. Relevant honors or awards
    • 2023 Engineer’s week outstanding junior biomedical engineering student
    • Navy Achievement Medal
    • Dean’s list at UH 2020-2023
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important
    • I plan on applying to all of the Texas MD schools, but I am unsure where I should apply out of state because of my GPA. The grades I received at LSU are around 9 years old at this point and I have shown a strong upward trend since I have started college again, with a 3.98/3.97 if counting only my UH grades.
