I'm not sure if this would fall under neurology or gastroenterology since this relates to the vagus nerve but in our glass we are learning about gastrointestinal disorders and treatments for them.
One of the conditions we are learning about is peptic ulcer disease and the treatment for that is a truncal vagotomy where the vagus nerve is severed above the level of the stomach.
They want us to know about complications but other than dumping syndrome and abdominal cramping I can't find other definitive complications. Some state that severe vitamin B12 deficiency is a complication other make no mention of this. Is it?
Also, how can the the stomach still function of the nerves to it are severed?
