for those of us with some fun in the desert in our near futures, i'd like to start a list of online resources that would be useful in a deployed environment. I'll prune this thread periodically to consolidate the links on one post.

some tips for deployment.
1. Don't trust TMOP (mail order pharmacy) to get stuff to you in a timely fashion, get supply of meds from local pharmacy.
Alternative method, is to get access to CHCS 1 (Navy) and put prescription in at home pharmacy, and state in comments, please allow spouse to pick up meds and mail to deployed service member. this usually works.

IF your network at deployed sight is fast enough this is useful, otherwise, make sure all your sailors have 6 months or more supply prior to leaving.

2: Get a password, or access to uptodate, or similar reference of your choice, since as a GMO your phone a friend may not work when you need it most. Of course, murphy dicates, that this would be precisely the same time that internet will be down.

Prepare to work across service boundries, since you will see pretty much any coalition force. That includes all the US forces, as well as any of our coalition friends. Also will likely see locals in whatever theater your in.

Does anybody have any idea how to log on and complete the CBRNE module? They have told us to do this at my hospital, but have given us no instructions on how to go about doing so. Thanks for any help.

At MAMC you can access CBRNE training through the Swank Health website. You need a password to log in. I'm not sure where else you can go for the CBRNE training, but I believe there is an Army specific site where it can be accessed also. It takes a LONG time. It took me several days working an hour or two a day. Definately not worth the time, but mandatory, none the less. At some places there is a "study guide" to help you with the answers. Ask around in your department.
 
There is an army website that shows the base pay for physicians and the bonuses for their area of specialty. It also shows how much the housing allowance is for different cities. Does anyone have the link to this site?

For basic pay and bonuses:

-these are the 2006 rates, everything goes up roughly 2.2% stating 2007

For BAH:

Does anyone have or know of solid resources/info on receiving GI Bill benefits while you're in residency? The www.gibill.va.gov website seems to be fairly worthless, for anything that pertains to physicians using the GI Bill and residency.

You will have to go through the VA to get the benefits. When you go off AD, there is supposed to be a checkout counseling course you go through that explains this. You might call ahead and get the contact information from the people who do the counseling so you can set things up. Your personnel dept ought to be able to tell you who to call, since they do some of the outprocessing for those who are separating.

Another pay calculator - worth checking out. It adjusts income for the tax advantages of nontaxable income like BAH and BAS.

One thing I wish I'd known earlier when I was on the HPSP teat - there are good reputable services which provide leased laptops and computers to student scholarship recipients (from all branches) at prices within the constraints of the HPSP contract. One such service is in Houston, TX:

does anyone know how to get a PGY1 (Internship) in a Military Hospital being a civilian?

Hello!

I'm a young doctor from Albania. I have just started to work in a blood donation bank. In a transfusion medicine book I read that the US Army Blood Service has a list of medications that suspend the donor from blood donation. I couldn't find it online. Can anyone help me find this list?

I wanted to share this for current and up and coming millitary doctors, corpsmen, medics, etc.
For the warfighter - mainly important OCONUS but in the states too- here's the link to Vector Map- it lists the vectors of medical relevance.

Our main focus here at WRAIR is mosquitos and sandflies (for leish, malaria and dengue) but it will help reduce your risk for any vectorborne illnesses when you know what's in the area you're deploying. :D

Hmm...This is a pinned/stickied thread with the first post originating around 8 years ago and it still hasn't been updated to have all of the resources consolidated on the first page? :thumbdown:+pissed+:bang:
